Adam Lehrer – Artist & Writer
I get flagged constantly on Instagram. My work isn’t even sexual really. I use photoshop to reimagine my friends and lovers bodies as biomorphic humanoids, or something. A vagina, or a cock, or a nipple, grounds the work in reality. When I have to censor those out, the pieces just don’t work as well. It’s stunning to me that Instagram has solidified its power by creating this incredible platform for self-publishing work but still hasn’t found a way to let users declare that they have no problem with sexy or violent images. It removes choice. We have choice in literally all other aspects of culture. We can watch porn if we want to watch porn. We can watch Herschel Gordon Lewis films. And Instagram is just an extension of the internet. A curated google image search. So why can’t we just fucking choose what we want to see on there as well?
